Delete your WordReel account
Last updated: September 5, 2026
This page explains how to request deletion of your WordReel account and the data associated with it. WordReel is an English vocabulary app published by WordReel, the developer named on our Google Play and App Store listings. You can delete your account yourself from inside the app in under a minute, or ask us to do it for you by email.
Option 1 — Delete it yourself in the app (fastest)
This takes effect immediately. You'll need to be signed in on a device with the app installed.
- Open the WordReel app and make sure you're signed in to the account you want deleted.
- Tap Profile in the bottom navigation bar.
- Tap Settings in the menu list.
- Scroll to the bottom of Settings and tap Delete account, shown in red below the Account section.
- Read the confirmation dialog, then tap Delete to confirm.
Your account and its data are erased at that point. The action is permanent and cannot be undone — there is no recovery window and no way for us to restore a deleted account.
If you signed in a while ago, your device may ask you to sign in again first. This is a security check on deletion specifically; sign in and repeat the steps above.
Option 2 — Ask us to delete it for you
If you no longer have the app installed or can't sign in, email us and we'll delete the account on your behalf.
- Email privacy@wordreel.org from the email address associated with your WordReel account.
- Use the subject line Delete my WordReel account.
- Include the email address you signed up with, and tell us whether you signed in with email and password or Sign in with Google.
We may need to verify that the request comes from the account holder before acting on it. We confirm receipt within 5 business days and complete deletion within 30 days of verifying your request.
What is deleted
Deleting your account permanently erases all of the following:
| Data type | What it includes |
|---|---|
| Account identity | Your email address, display name, and the sign-in identifier from Firebase Authentication |
| Learning progress | XP, day streak, words learned, daily-goal history, and last-active date |
| Word and lesson records | Every word you've learned, favorited, or marked as hard; review scheduling state; completed lessons and accuracy scores |
| Preferences | Native language, translation language, CEFR level, daily word goal, and notification settings |
| Subscription link | The record connecting your account to your subscription entitlement |
| On-device data | All local progress, cached content, and settings stored on the device you delete from |
Server-side deletion cascades across every table keyed to your account, so no orphaned progress record is left behind.
What is kept, and for how long
A small amount of information survives deletion, either because the law requires it or because it is no longer linked to you:
- Purchase and transaction records — up to 7 years. If you ever bought a subscription, records of that transaction are retained to meet tax, accounting, and audit obligations. These are held by Google Play, Apple, and our payments partner RevenueCat. They are not deleted when your account is.
- Encrypted database backups — up to 7 days. Your records may persist in routine backups until those backups age out on their own schedule. They are not used for any purpose in the meantime and are not restored into the live service.
- Aggregated and anonymized statistics — indefinitely. Counts and metrics that can no longer be linked back to you or to any individual, such as how many people completed a given lesson.
- Advertising identifiers — controlled by your device. Ad identifiers used by Google AdMob belong to your device, not your WordReel account. Reset or delete them in your device settings: Settings → Google → Ads on Android, or Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on iOS.
- Correspondence — up to 2 years. If you emailed us to request deletion, we keep that exchange as proof the request was honored.
If you have an active subscription
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Subscriptions are billed by Google Play or Apple, not by us, and they keep renewing until you cancel them there. Cancel first, then delete your account:
- Android: Google Play Store → tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → WordReel → Cancel subscription
- iPhone / iPad: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → WordReel → Cancel Subscription
Deleting your account does not entitle you to a refund for the current billing period. Refunds are handled entirely by Google Play or Apple under their own policies.
If you used WordReel as a guest
If you never created a profile, you were using WordReel as a guest. Guest progress — your XP, streak, and learned words — is stored only on your device and is never uploaded to our servers. Uninstalling the app erases all of it.
Because a guest has no account to sign in to, the in-app Delete account option is not shown for guests. The one thing that does exist on our side is an anonymous identifier created so the app can stream movie clips; it carries no email, no name, and no progress. If you would like that identifier removed as well, email privacy@wordreel.org and we will delete it.
